Shayla is a practicing member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists, born and raised in Victoria, BC. Shayla attended the University of Victoria and Camosun College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. She has worked with clients in chronic disease management, high-performance sport, power development, physical literacy for youth, cognitive coordination, biomechanics and gate, vertigo, hormone balance, injury prevention, and stress and pain management.
Shayla is passionate about the livelihood of her clients. She believes in a healthy mind and body connection and helps her clients enjoy the journey as they work towards their goals. Shayla places emphasis on injury prevention by focusing on proper mobility and activation, promoting the importance of effective recovery. Her years in competitive sport, paired with her passion for sports science, help fuel her drive to learn and evolve – while seeing her clients succeed.
She is a certified NCCP Regional Figure Skating Coach. She has coached power skating, edge work, dryland development, and technical performance for eight years. For fifteen years, Shayla was a competitive figure skater and played various extracurricular sports, including basketball, volleyball, track, softball, swimming, and high jump.
Shayla enjoys training clients to develop independence through functional movement. She enjoys planning her client’s programs, whether they are aiming for National Drafts or maintaining their health to enjoy hobbies and complete daily tasks. Shayla enjoys pushing athletes to their highest potential, helping clients find ease in daily life movements, and helping her community build self-efficacy and self-confidence.
In her off time, which is short and sweet, she enjoys heading to sporting events, going to the beach or forests, and walking her dog Sprocket. Shayla loves a road trip and will, without a doubt, ask to stop the car to look at the cows. She enjoys all types of adventures and can be relied on to provide a perfectly curated playlist.
