Active Release Therapy

Active Release Therapy (ART) is a non-invasive manual therapy technique that corrects soft tissue restrictions. The breakdown of scar tissue and adhesions works to optimize functionality for customers suffering from pain and mobility issues.
ART applies to acute and chronic conditions involving the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and fascia. A typical session with a physiotherapist starts with an assessment of the affected area and the positioning of the client into an ‘active’ position to receive treatment.
In this position, muscles become shortened, and hands-on tension can be manually applied. Then, with pressure held in place, the client moves through a range of motions, lengthening the targeted muscle. A combination of tension and motion is leveraged during treatment to help clients experience full release. This technique can elicit an intense response from some clients—the body’s tolerance for stretching muscles is often tested during active treatment.
